Static Reader Support

Need help with Static Reader? Email Ryan McCool. For a bug report, include your app version/build, device model, iOS/iPadOS version, what you expected, what happened and the steps to reproduce it. A redacted screenshot can help.

You can find the app's build and technical details in Settings → Diagnostics. Share a report only if it is relevant, and check it for private information first. Never send passwords, API keys, account tokens or copyrighted book/audio/comic files in a routine bug report.

Your local files

In-app imports use Files → Browse → On My iPhone/iPad → Static Reader → Media. The app needs to finish the import before the item is ready. Files visibility can occasionally lag the app's storage registration; if the folder is missing after a completed import, restart the device and check that location again. Do not reinstall the app to troubleshoot without a backup.

Media discovered in iCloud uses iCloud Drive → Static Reader and its category folders. Reading progress/library metadata use CloudKit separately; the app does not upload original media files through CloudKit. Apple controls iCloud Drive download/upload availability and timing.

Reading progress or iCloud questions

Use the same Apple account on devices that should share a library. Keep iCloud available for Static Reader and check your connection and available storage. Metadata connection and retry are automatic—there is no Connect Library step. The iCloud Metadata settings show the latest status and technical details. Send those details privately if a problem continues.

Multiple-file audiobooks

Use Import Audiobooks to select audio files or a folder of chapters. Open the audiobook details' file-list control to review and reorder the tracks. Keep originals until the import is complete.

Optional services

Feeds, manga sources, OPDS servers, publishing destinations and online narration depend on the services you configure. Their availability and access rules can differ. OpenAI Read Aloud uses your own API key and is billed separately by OpenAI; on-device narration options are available.
